Ericsson and e& Egypt Sign Four-Year Agreement to Modernize Core Network and IT Systems, Accelerating 5G Readiness and VoLTE Adoption

Ericsson and e& Egypt have reinforced their long-standing partnership by signing a four-year agreement to modernize and expand e& Egypt’s core network applications, IT systems, and infrastructure. The collaboration aims to accelerate the operator’s cloud-native transformation, strengthen 5G readiness, and enrich communication services for millions of users across Egypt.
Under the new agreement, Ericsson will deliver a comprehensive modernization of e& Egypt’s network and IT ecosystem to enhance performance, flexibility, and service innovation. The transformation will support the introduction of new digital services and accelerate the adoption of Voice over LTE (VoLTE), enabling a superior user experience and paving the way for advanced connectivity solutions.
The project includes a major upgrade of e& Egypt’s data management capabilities, migrating from Unified Data Consolidation (UDC) to a cloud-native Unified Data Management (UDM) platform. Additionally, key core network applications such as IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Ericsson Dynamic Activation (EDA), and Service-Aware Policy Controller (SAPC) will be enhanced to streamline operations and ensure optimized Quality of Service (QoS).
As part of the network infrastructure modernization, Ericsson will deploy its Cloud Native Infrastructure Solution (CNIS) and Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI) to strengthen scalability and operational efficiency. The collaboration also includes the expansion of Ericsson Billing, Ericsson Mediation, and Ericsson Charging—now integrating the Charging Access Function (CAF)—to support new monetization models and unlock fresh business opportunities in the 5G era.
Commenting on the agreement, Amr Fathy, Chief Technology and Information Officer at e& Egypt, said:
“This agreement extends our long-standing partnership with Ericsson and supports the transformation of our network. The modernization and expansion will accelerate VoLTE adoption and introduce new services to our customers, while strengthening our foundation for a more agile and future-ready network that drives efficiency and innovation across our operations.”
Kevin Murphy, Vice President and Head of Ericsson North Middle East at Ericsson Europe, Middle East and Africa, added:
“This extended agreement marks a milestone in our collaboration with e& Egypt. Through this modernization, we are enabling e& Egypt to accelerate VoLTE adoption, introduce new digital services, and build a robust, cloud-native network ready for the 5G era. It reflects our shared vision for advancing network excellence and digital transformation in Egypt.”
Ericsson and e& Egypt share a partnership spanning multiple generations of mobile technology, with e& Egypt currently operating Ericsson’s end-to-end Business and Operations Support System and Core Network Management (CNM) portfolios. This latest agreement underscores both companies’ commitment to driving innovation, operational efficiency, and superior connectivity experiences for users nationwide.
