Mahmoud Sofrata Appointed Vice President for ICT Markets Development at Egypt’s IT Industry Development Agency

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, has announced the appointment of Eng. Mahmoud Sofrata as Vice President for ICT Markets Development at the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
With more than 25 years of international experience, Sofrata has held senior leadership roles in global technology firms such as Honeywell and Hewlett-Packard (HP). His professional track record covers business development, strategic transformation, and technology entrepreneurship, with a strong focus on AI-driven solutions, digital innovation, and renewable energy technologies.
Before joining ITIDA, Sofrata served as Regional Director of Industrial Safety at Honeywell International in Dubai, where he oversaw operations across the Middle East, Africa, Russia, Central Asia, and Turkey. During his tenure, he led major initiatives including industrial localization programs in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the rollout of IoT-enabled safety solutions for high-risk sectors like oil and gas and mining, and a five-year growth strategy that reinforced Honeywell’s regional market leadership.
Sofrata also played a pivotal role in advancing digital transformation through initiatives such as the “Digital Classrooms” project and the launch of Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) models for enterprises. His leadership further encompassed enhancing supply chain efficiency, expanding into new markets across Africa and the Gulf, and empowering local talent, with a notable emphasis on increasing women’s representation in leadership positions.
Since joining ITIDA in 2024 as Director of ICT Markets Development, Sofrata has driven significant progress in strengthening Egypt’s IT and offshoring sectors. He has been instrumental in building global partnerships, promoting foreign investments, and creating new market opportunities, positioning Egypt as a leading hub for digital services worldwide.
Eng. Mahmoud Sofrata holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Cairo University. He is widely recognized for his dedication to talent development, digital skills training, and mentoring high-performing teams to succeed in global markets.
