The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) issues new procedures regarding spam calls

As part of its efforts to combat and reduce the phenomenon of spam calls, the NTRA announces the implementation of strict technical and regulatory measures, starting Sunday, August 24, to disconnect mobile phones detected making spam calls in violation of the regulations issued by the NTRA in this regard. This step comes in response to ongoing complaints from citizens about being subjected to spam calls and to ensure the protection of users' rights and privacy
The NTRA previously approved regulations for the use of mobile lines for making promotional and commercial calls, ensuring the service is provided legally and lawfully without compromising citizens' privacy or disturbing them. The implementation of these regulations has resulted in approximately one million lines subscribing to the service since its launch last year. This has enabled citizens to receive the name and number of the caller with the promotional call, and has given them the freedom to answer or ignore such calls
The Authority urges users or companies who continue to make promotional calls via mobile or landline networks without yet subscribing to the service to contact their telecommunications companies and promptly subscribe to the service, registering their numbers and the type of promotional activity, to avoid disconnecting the devices used to make these nuisance calls.
In addition to the technical measures the Authority will implement to disconnect the devices used in nuisance calls, the Authority confirms its continued commitment to taking all legal action against any company that violates the provisions of the law or the regulatory frameworks issued by the Authority in this regard. Violating companies face penalties of imprisonment and fines in accordance with the provisions of Article 76 of Law No. 10 of 2003 Regulating Telecommunications and the provisions of Article 25 of Law No. 175 of 2018 Combating Information Technology Crimes.
It is worth noting that the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has provided citizens with multiple channels to report any violations related to nuisance calls if they receive anonymous promotional calls or calls without prior warning. These channels include mobile company call centers, NTRA call centers, the NTRA hotline (155), the NTRA electronic application, My NTRA, or through the dedicated website: https://fraud.tra.gov.eg
